1. Assignment Inbox tab
This is the default page. Here you can view and control the student submissions.
2. Analytics tab
In this tab you can download statistics on the submission inbox including the Submission timeline, average similarity, and average source variety.
3. Notifications
Turnitin alerts appear here such as planned downtime and links to requested downloads.
4. ?
This is a link to the Turnitin support site. Alternatively contact the TEL Team on: telsupport@aston.ac.uk
Edit the submission link settings.
Note You cannot edit the Due Date once the submission link has been created. To edit the Due Date return to the content area where the link appears and open the link menu. From the menu select Change Due Date.
6. Search
Type a search term in the search box and Turnitin will filter the Assignment Inbox to match your search term. The searchable fields are:
- Author
- Paper Title
- Paper ID
- Uploaded
- Grade
- Similarity
By default, in the Assignment Inbox, you will see all the students enrolled on the course. You can filter the Assignment Inbox by Blackboard groups, select a group from the drop-down list and you will only see those students in that group.
8. Submit on behalf of student
You can submit work on behalf of an enrolled student.
9. Refresh Inbox Data
This syncs the list of students who appear in the Assignment Inbox with the students enrolled on the course.
Turnitin assigns all the students enrolled on the course a slot in the Assignment Inbox when a submission link is created. If a student is subsequently enrolled on the course, they will not have a slot and will not be able to submit their work. Click Refresh Inbox Data to sync the Assignment Inbox with the list of enrolled students.
10. Download All
You can download submission statistics and student’s work in multiple formats. This can be for all students via Download All, or, for selected students using the tick box next to their name.
- Grade Report – Download a spreadsheet of submission statistics. This is only available after the Feedback Release Date.
- Submission List – Download a list of all enrolled students and whether they have submitted. This is only available after the Feedback Release Date.
- Original Files – This will download a copy of the original file submitted by the student.
If Download All is showing, Turnitin will download the original file for every submission in the Assignment Inbox. This can be limited to selected students this by checking the tick box next to the author’s name. - Standard PDFs – This will download a PDF version of the original file submitted by the student.
If Download All is showing, Turnitin will download the PDF of every submission in the Assignment Inbox. This can be limited to selected students this by checking the tick box next to the author’s name. - GradeMark PDFs – This will download a PDF copy submitted file that contains the marks and feedback.
If Download All is showing, Turnitin will download the GradeMark PDF for every submission in the Assignment Inbox. This can be limited to selected students this by checking the tick box next to the author’s name.
11. Author
This is the name of the student. If Anonymous marking is enabled, this is masked until after the Feedback Release Date.
12. Paper Title
This is the name given to the submission by the student.
It is also a link to open the assignment in the Document viewer in Feedback Studio.
13. Paper ID
The Paper ID is a unique number given to each submission.
- This is sent to students in their Submission Receipt and can also be found in Feedback Studio in the Information screen.
- If anonymous marking is enabled the paper id will enable to you to identify a submission if there is a problem.
Note The Paper ID is generated when the student submits their work. If the student then re-submits to the same link, replacing the original submission, the Paper ID will remain the same.
14. Uploaded
This is the date and time the student submitted their work.
- Dates in red indicate this student submitted after the Due Date.
- Two dashes indicate this student has not submitted.
This indicates if a student has viewed their marks and feedback in Feedback Studio for more than 30 seconds.
- Eye – This student has viewed their marks
- Eye with a line through – This student has not viewed their marks
This is the grade that has been entered in Feedback Studio.
It is also a link to open the assignment in the Document viewer in Feedback Studio.
- A blue pencil icon indicates that the work has not been marked.
- A grey pencil icon indicates that this student has not submitted. Clicking on the grey pencil creates a grading template to enable you to give that student marks and feedback in Feedback Studio. The grading template takes the place of their submission and will prevent the student from submitting to a file in its place.
17. Similarity
This is the similarity score.
It is also a link to open the assignment in the Document viewer in Feedback Studio.
- A clock icon indicates that the similarity report is pending.
- Two dashes indicates that this student did not submit.
18. Flags
Any submission that has a potential issue will be noted with a red flag icon by Turnitin. Read more about Turnitin flags.
Select a paper by ticking the checkbox next to the author’s name.
- Upload – Submit a file on behalf of this student.
- Download – Download a copy of the original submission.
- Remove from Inbox – This removes the file submitted by the student to clear their slot so they can submit again.
The file will remain on in the Turnitin database and will appear in future matches. - Request permanent deletion – This removes the file submitted by the student from the Assignment Inbox so they can submit again.
It will also send a request to TEL to remove the file from the Turnitin database to prevent it appearing in future matches.
